Uyuni

From San Pedro de Atacama we jumped on a 3 day 4WD tour to Uyuni. We were grouped with four others in our jeep and our driver Wilson. The tour starts from the border of Chile and Bolivia and makes is way through the high altiplano of Bolivia, up to 4900m up, past amazing mountains, rock formations, multi-coloured lakes and volcanoes. The tour company we went with was Estrella del Sur and we found that they were great - good driver, no break-downs or flat tires, great food and good accommodation.

At times the tour was freezing, it got down to around -15 degrees during the first night (six blankets didn't quite do the job) and at times the high altitude slowed us down a bit. However Paul and were pretty lucky that we didn't get affected too much by the altitude.

Despite the cold and the altitude, the whole tour was breath-taking. The constantly scenery was something else - see below.

Unfortunately a few of us got a stomach bug on the last day of our tour, including me and Paul, so a few days in Uyuni in bed was required. Next on to Potosi....
