Cartagena

Making our way up to the Caribbean Coast, we made a one night stop in the historic walled city of Cartagena de Indias. With temperatures in the 35 to 40 degree bracket and humidity in excess of 90% it was pretty toasty to say the least. As such we moved pretty slowly in the intense sunshine (and sheltered inside when the odd heavy downpour hit).

Cat was a bit underwhelmed by her first sighting of the Caribbean, complete with waterfront expressway:

The buildings have a lot of 'Caribbean character' and are on the most part pretty quaint and brightly coloured. The streets are full of vendors selling fresh (although uncomfortably warm) fruits, and plenty of trinkets, Panama hats, and icecreams. This made for some interesting wandering of the streets soaking up the atmosphere (and the heat). I managed to stay clear of any new hats for the over 70s and stuck to my new cap from Medellin:

It was a bit cloudy, but our first sunset over the Caribbean wasn't too bad:

After sunset the weather was a touch more bearable, so we sat out on the street and enjoyed some happy hour cocktails and beers. We enjoyed/were forced to enjoy the rap stylings of a couple of kids which were pretty entertaining, and ended the night with a bite to eat.

A short stay in an impressive looking city, but it was probably enough time here for us.
